see you tomorrow

Rainy day I recall
Stuck in a multipurpose classroom
Sneaked right out through the hall
Hopped on the car turned up the stereo
You had always remind me of the one who ran towards tomorrow
I would always just stay behind and hope you'd turn around
Then I'd say
We used to fantasize
Of when we grow up
How overpowered we'd become
Killed monsters through the night
And when the sun came up
The journeys' only just begun
But time would never tell
Us how this story ends
Down by the parking lot on the way home
Where we said see you tomorrow
When we said see you before I go
Summer night I recall
Our favorite toy shop closed forever
Graduated in fall
You left the town that you had outgrown
You decided to live your life and not come back until you do so
I decided to stay behind in case you'd turn around
Then I'd say
We used to fantasize
Of when we grow up
Of all the things we'd overcome
But years began to fly
Slowly drifted apart
Slowly our journey put on hold
But time would never tell
I guess we didn't know
That by the parking lot on the way home
That it would be the last time
I used to fantasize
Of when we'd meet again
Of all the stories we would tell
But time thought otherwise
While I was looking back
Your journey ended long ago
I missed the funeral
I guess I didn't know
That by the parking lot on the way home
That it would be the last time
We used to fantasize
When we said see you tomorrow
We used to fantasize
Yet still from time to time
I dream a dream of then
Down by the parking lot on the way home
Where we said see you tomorrow
When we said see you before I go
