0:31Scarecrow on a wooden cross
0:33Blackbird in the barn
0:35Four hundred empty acres
0:37That used to be my farm
0:39I grew up like my daddy
0:40Did my grandpa cleared this land
0:43When I was five I walked the fence
0:45While grandpa held my hand
0:47Rain on the scarecrow
0:49Blood on the plow
0:51This land fed a nation
0:52This land made me proud
0:55And Son I'm just sorry
0:56There's no legacy for you now
0:59Rain on the scarecrow
1:01Blood on the plow
1:03Rain on the scarecrow
1:05Blood on the plow
1:06The crops we grew last summer
1:08Weren't enough to pay the loans
1:10Couldn't buy the seed to plant this spring
1:12And the Farmers Bank foreclosed
1:14Called my old friend Schepman
1:16Up to auction off the land
1:18He said John it's just my job
1:20And I hope you understand
1:22Hey calling it your job
1:23Ol' hoss sure don't make it right
1:26But if you want me to
1:27I'll say a prayer for your soul tonight
1:30And grandma's on the front porch
1:31Swing with a Bible in her hand
1:33Sometimes I hear her singing
1:35"Take me to the Promised Land"
1:38When you take away a man's dignity
1:39He can't work his fields and cows
1:41There'll be blood on the scarecrow
1:44Blood on the plow
1:46Blood on the scarecrow
1:48Blood on the plow
2:24Well there's ninety-seven crosses
2:26Planted in the courthouse yard
2:28Ninety-seven families
2:30Who lost ninety-seven farms
2:32I think about my grandpa
2:34And my neighbors and my name
2:36And some nights I feel like dyin'
2:38Like that scarecrow in the rain
2:41Rain on the scarecrow
2:43Blood on the plow
2:44This land fed a nation
2:46This land made me proud
2:48And Son I'm just sorry
2:50They're just memories for you now
2:52Rain on the scarecrow
2:54Blood on the plow
2:56Rain on the scarecrow
2:58Blood on the plow
3:00Rain on the scarecrow
3:02Blood on the plow
3:04This land fed a nation
3:06This land made me so proud
3:08And Son I'm just sorry
3:09They're just memories for you now
3:12Rain on the scarecrow
3:14Blood on the plow
3:16Rain on the scarecrow
3:18Blood on the plow
