If She Says Yes

Hey dad there's this girl
Every Thursday after lunch break I sit next to her
When I get home she's all I'm thinking about
I've never had a girlfriend but I think I want one now
I'm scared to ask 'cause I don't know what she'd say
I like what we have and I'd hate for that to change
If she says no then what's next
She'll come in to school and she'll tell all her friends
And they'll tell mine
And you know what they're like
If she says no then I bet
She'll start sitting next to someone new in French
What happens next
Will she ever talk to me again
Oh son you have to take a chance
'Cause what if she says yes
Hey son I've been in your place
When your heart's ready to jump in but your head's too afraid
I've had times that it didn't work out
But if I'd have stopped trying you wouldn't be here now
The truth is that I don't know what she'll say
But being a little scared's what makes you brave
If she says no then I guess
She'll come in to school and she'll tell all her friends
And that'd be rough
Knowing what they're saying on the bus
If she says no then I guess
She could be sitting next to someone new in French
What happens next
I'm sure that she'll talk to you again
Oh son you have to take a chance
'Cause what if she says yes
What if she says yes
What if one day
You're walking down the hall with her hand in your hand
Your friends all wishing for the courage you had
Sitting on a park bench leaning in
Butterflies flying 'round your first kiss
Knowing what it's like to be in love
Finding out it's bigger than you thought it was
All the phone calls and the midnight texts
Now all the songs in the films all make sense
Oh son you have to take a chance
Oh son I promise it's the best
If she says yes
